Shifting Bad Moods Quickly

Yesterday I was about to teach a class and literally the entire class walked in the room in a bad mood. I have never experienced an entire class in a bad mood before.

I must say as an instructor it was rather over-whelming.

Once everyone got settled in, I stopped the music. I could not step over the bad mood’s that were playing out in the room. In fact, some people were even being bad with one another.

My first thought was…”is there a full moon coming?”

To which I found out later….yes…yes there is.  (This all plays out more later on…)

As I stopped the class and had to raise my voice over what was happening in the room I asked everyone to take a DEEEEEPPPPP breathe and raise their arms slowly up and down….keep breathing deeply and after about 6-8 deep breaths, I asked them to go to their HAPPY place in their thoughts and as they kept breathing deeply I asked each person to share where there happy place was.

Within 5 minutes, the mood shifted to calmness and within another 5 minutes, they were all calm and starting to show signs of peace and happiness.

The music could now come back on…

It really took something to shift the energy in the room and what I got really present to is how energy, whether positive or negative can impact how we show up in our daily lives.

Whether it be something that has happened to us or is an effect of our environment, we are susceptible to displaying symptoms or patterns that will show up and sometimes without us even realizing and we just think we are in a “bad mood”.

The practice of just stopping and breathing deeply and disconnecting from whatever we are upset about can ultimately shift where our whole day may be headed.

Normally I would have used music to pump up and shift the room, however, yesterday it really was about stopping, breathing and getting present to a place that we think about that makes us smile.

Whatever it may take for you to stop and get present to something bigger than what you think the problem is in front of you, trust me, it is worth it to stop and breathe and shift your day before it goes any further down that rabbit hole.
