Do You Get the Mid Week Blues?

Never fear! Zumba Basics is HERE!!! 🙂

Okay, yes. I do get quite excited about this.

Here is why….many years ago now (before I found Zumba) I used to find Tuesdays to be a very long day and by the time Wednesday rolled around, I would be feeling super tired and wishing for the weekend….since discovering the great world of Zumba AND doing a Zumba class every wednesday, my energy to kick it through the week has been AMAZING!

I personally just want everyone to have amazing days and incredible weeks and now that we have moved into this uber cool spot of High Park Brewery, it has made it even MORE FUN (if that was even possible)!!

This location is especially great for those who have friends or family who want to join you but may or may not want to actually do the class for now.  They can come, sit on the patio or inside, enjoy a cold pint or soda, listen to the music and pick up on the energy whether they are doing the class or not! Pretty cool!

You get to do your fitness class AND spend time with those you care about! OR, if you just need a night away from everyone, this is just a really awesome place to get your groove on with some pretty spectacular ladies!!

Tonight We Dance!

This morning I got up early (5:45am) in anticipation of it being Wednesday….I love Wednesdays…one of my favorite days of the week for so many reasons!

A big reason today that I am full of energy so early is that I get to see so many of you tonight! Tonight is Zumba Basics at High Park Brewery! Our new location lights me up!

For anyone who is not clear what Zumba Basics is…..it is a latin cardio fitness program that incorporates in music and moves from around the world. I take you on a musical journey of dance (with 3-4 moves per song to keep it easy to follow) from around the world.

We could be doing anything from bachata, salsa, swing, african, hip hop, reggatone, tango, cumbia, pop, brazilian, you name it and you will most likely find it in this class.

It is not about getting it “right”, it is about moving your body and feeling the rhythm in your soul.

I have been teaching now for nearly a decade and before that was a client for a few years with Zumba. In my opinion, this is one of the most fun ways to work out without feeling like you are doing a work out but your sweat and smile at the end let you know that you did!

If you miss a move we are doing, don’t worry about it! Accidental solo’s are the best! We have no mirrors in the Brewery so only you know if you missed it and it’s a great way to train yourself to not be so hard on you! 🙂

ANYONE truly can do Zumba!  If you can move your body in any way, you can do Zumba! I have clients in wheelchairs that do Zumba!  It is one of the best programs out there that is universal to anyone and everyone being able to participate.

Take a chance! I invite you to come out and give it a try!

High Park Brewery Zumba & a Pint Wednesday August 7th @ 6:45pm

This may sound a little crazy to some but I have always wanted to do Zumba in a cool brewery or night club!

The environment to me just screams ZUMBAAAA!!!

I am so happy that last week we got to do Zumba in High Park Brewery! We had 30 people on the floor doing zumba and around 50 people (dancers & non-dancers) in the brewery for the night! It was an awesome event bringing our community together! We even had 2 babies & 3 dogs! It really is a space for everyone 2-legged and 4-legged!

The feedback I received was awesome! 

“The parking is amazing! Free! And so much of it!”

“That was the most fun Zumba class!”

“You could feel the energy in the brewery”

“That beer was delicious!!”

“When can we do that again? I want to bring my friends!”

“That was easy to follow! It was my first time!”

And the feedback continued throughout the night….

At the end of the night, Ted & I (one of the amazing owners of the brewery) sat there talking about how great the night was….then we said s if reading each others minds…..”Let’s do it again!!” 🙂

We both agreed we didn’t want to wait too long, so Wednesday August 7th is the PERFECT date!

Here is the “What You Need to Know:

  • Wednesday August 7 @ 6:45pm  HIGH PARK BREWERY (839 Runnymede Road)
  • Zumba Basics (meaning anyone can do it! 3-4 moves per song)
  • $20 for Zumba class & a pint of delicious High Park Brewery beer OR a soft drink
  • Wear comfy breathable clothes & runners
  • Bring a reusable water bottle (We got lots to keep filling it!:)
  • Bring your friends, neighbors, family 2-legged & 4-legged if you like! They can do the class or just enjoy a cold pint or BOTH!

There is no food at the brewery but you are welcome to bring food in! Pick up a pizza, roti, chicken, whatever you like! You CAN eat it in the brewery!

Come a little early to get signed in! If you have not come before, there is a form you need to fill out, so please give yourself at minimum 5-10 minutes to get signed in and ready to begin!

Do You Need Stress Relief?

Life is not easy all the time and being human, we all deal with a certain amount of stress. It is just a fact of life.

Stress is something that will diminish your energy, cause anxiety through your body, leave you feeling like you either need to run away or stand up and fight.

It really does affect us all.

So what’s the solution?

I can only speak from what I know.  What I know if that I spent MANY years being a prisoner of my stress.  It would build up in my body until I felt paralyzed and couldn’t think of what a possible “next step” could even be!

One day while feeling super bummed out and wanting to hide, I heard a fun song on the radio that I knew. I could feel the corners of my mouth turning up. Soon I realized I was singing along.  By the end of the song I was up and moving around cleaning up while doing a little dance.

I felt great. Like the cement blocks on my shoulders were starting to crumble.

I started to do this more often when feeling super stressed out.

It wasn’t until years later that I discovered Zumba…and then really…like no kidding…I DANCE OUT ALL MY STRESS every week and feel amazing…even to this day!!!

Zumba became my full-time stress reliever.

I discovered that rhythms and moving my body to rhythms allowed not only my physical body to “feel good” but it also rearranges molecules in my thinking and how I react to difficult situations.

Zumba became my solution to dealing with my stress. Maybe it could for you too!

Self-care Comes FIRST

Seriously, this gets missed A LOT by MANY people!

Speaking from my own experience, I have a tendency to put everyone in my life’s needs before my own & by the end of the day, I am spent with no energy to give back to myself.

Recently, I have been switching it up.

Checking in with myself each MORNING & ensuring what I need from myself for the day, I get.

What this has shown me is that I am still able to be there & support others like I always did (if not even better now) & all my own personal needs are taken care of & I do not waiver from ensuring they are in a timely manner everyday!

So do what you need to do to take care of yourself FIRST & then watch how much easier it is to be there for others!

Kindness is Contagious!

In a world of busy, it is important to remember whether you are in person OR on-line you have a choice in EVERY moment to show love and kindness.

So many times I see negativity being spread on social media and just the other day, I was at the gas station and witnessed a guy yelling at a woman because in his opinion, she was taking too long at the pump.  Whenever I see this kind of behavior whether on-line or in person, I have to wonder how much energy all that negativity just sucked out of the person dishing it out and how much energy was taken away from the person who it got delivered on.

I know first-hand when I am being kind to someone in either situation, by the end I am lit up and so is the person I supported or spoke kindly to.  It is like a little energy boost without doing a physical work out. It just feels great!

I assert that when we/you/I dump negativity on someone quite the opposite occurs and a loss of energy happens. This leaves us feeling drained, unhappy and many times ready to give up.

That being said, if you want to energize your day, spend the day doing kind deeds or saying kind things to others and see how your energy level boosts!

An attitude of gratitude and sprinkling kindness everywhere you go brings on Good Karma, abundance of energy and an awesome life!

Don’t just take my word for it….GET OUT THERE AND SPRINKLE KINDNESS EVERYWHERE! 🙂

Unconditional Love…

As the Holidays fast approach, this can be a very difficult time for many.  Between families coming together, presents being bought, missing those that are no longer with us or are unable to make it home for the holidays, days can seem hard and unpredictable.

When it comes to holidays, my family and I (my biological family) haven’t spent a holiday together in quite some time.  The only reason why this doesn’t sadden me is that whenever I go home or my family comes to Ontario, we make it seem like a holiday is happening!

We have been known to give gifts in July and wish each other a Merry Christmas and we just have it be that the holiday  is “whenever we are together”.

In the past few years, my family (here in Ontario) have experienced some big losses and while it was not easy for any of us, we have been able to come together and celebrate those who are no longer here and work on making new traditions while still keeping the original ones.

What I have learned this far in my 41 years of life, is that everything comes down to perspective and I get to say how I react to things that are happening in my life.  That is sometimes really hard to see and I need the support of my loved one’s and friends to guide me in getting past what it is that has come up.

It is not a bad thing to ask for support. For someone to talk to, confide in and genuinely let them in to support you during this time…when we are truly in the giving spirit of the holidays, what there is to give is love.
