Here We Go 2019!

There is something about starting a New Year that allows for all of what didn’t work the year before to be put behind me.

I begin to think about what it is that I want to accomplish in the New Year and looking at what it will take to do so.

I have made New Year’s resolutions before but quickly they fell out of existence…mainly because they were “great ideas” but I failed to put a plan of action to achieve them in place.

Now, in the first week of the New Year, I fill my calendar with actions. Actions that will propel what I want to accomplish and I do it in 3 month increments. I set out my schedule of what I know I already have to do. ie. Work, homework, accounting, etc. and then I add in my personal workouts (I schedule my fitness like I do work), meetings, phone calls, etc.

Yes. I teach fitness classes, however, I also do some personal fitness goals just for me as well as a mind, body, spirit regime of reading, meditating and more. Honestly, if I do not schedule this stuff in, it doesn’t happen and I had to get really straight with myself about that.

Left to my own devices, I could binge on Netflix or find 1000 other things to do before taking care of me. Yup. I am just as guilty as the next person!

Action plans create just that….ACTION!

Imagine yourself 3 months out from where you currently are and walk back from that point to what you had to do to get there and write it all down. Use a google calendar! Put a calendar app on your phone, or if you like to go ‘old school’ write it on a piece of paper and go to work!

Remember, do not beat yourself up if you miss an action. Just put it back in existence and look towards that future you are creating.

Be kind to yourself and be in action.

Discover Your Passion and Make it Your Purpose!

Before creating the LOL Movement, I used to work many different jobs….for years I worked behind a desk as an office manager. Before that in ophthalmology and prior to that managing gyms and offices.  I would go from job to job thinking “this will be THE ONE!”

Does this sound familiar?

Excited at first. Delighted with the tasks I had in front of me and then at some point….I would lose my passion or drive for it.  It became a J-O-B….just something I did to pay the bills. While I continue to do it well, in my heart I always would know when the passion for it had left.

Upon discovering Zumba it was like my whole body came alive. I never saw it as a career or something I would be passionate about. It was just that class I took on Thursdays that allowed me to stop thinking or worrying for an hour.  When my instructor approached me one day and said I should teach this, I thought she had lost it….but later that night I began to think about it and weeks later, I found a training and threw my hat over the wall and went for it.

Best decision I ever made!

I started out small….teaching one class a week for about 6 months….then two classes for about another 6 months….then four a week….then (rearranging my day job to accommodate more classes) six classes a week…..then it just got out of control!

I realized that what I was doing for fun and what I loved were colliding together and it was awesome. I was suddenly consumed by choreographing…dancing on the subway to make up new routines…figuring out how I could do more classes and who else could benefit from this!

My passion became my purpose.  Now, nearly 2 years later on my own building this, I continue to live my passion and know that my purpose is to have people see how AMAZING they truly are and what they CAN accomplish.

Are there struggles? Yes.

Do I always win? No.

Do I get back up and keep going? Yes.

Will I ever give up on anyone? No.

Everyday is a gift. The moment your eyes open, you have been given another day to make the most of. Do not play small. Go for your dreams. Create visions. Dance like nobody is watching…..LIVE!

Do You Get Stressed in January?

January can be one of the toughest months of the year.  Physically, emotionally, financially.

For many of us, we live where it is cold and we can easily use that as an excuse to not going to the gym or studio for a workout…we just finished the holiday season and surprisingly even in the cold, flies will come flying out of your wallet where money once was.   Then for many of us, we have over indulged in both spirit and spirit’s through December and our mid sections are trying to play catch up!

You are not alone if you are feeling any or all of the above statements.  This can also be one of the most depressing months out of the year because people feel “trapped” in their circumstances due to all or some of the above.  You do not have to feel squashed by this. Recognizing it is important. It is a stage that is needed so you can go above and beyond what you see in front of you.

The important thing to remember is to not make yourself wrong about what you see you have done.  Remember, in the moment that you spent that money, ate that food, drank that wine you were having a great time making memories of some sort.  You didn’t do it so that in January you could beat yourself up!  Not at all. It is just what happened and when you get upset about it, it is all the upset you cause around it by making it mean all sorts of things about you!

A few tips that I have found really work this time of year are:

  1. Cook at home. Make healthy choices, dinners ahead of time and freeze them. This will save you money from eating out and will support you in staying away from rich foods. You can control making healthier foods that you eat.
  2. Acknowledge what you have in your bank account is what you have! Make it last! Play a game.  You know when you will have a bit more money so with what you have divide it by the days you have left until more comes in and play the game to only spend what you got! Leave your credit cards alone!
  3. Any time you think a nice cocktail would taste good, have a juice, glass of water, cup of tea. Make a virgin cocktail of some sort. Stay away from alcohol for a bit, let your body restore itself.
  4. Go to your fitness classes whether the weather is warm, cold or anything in between. There will always be a “good reason” for why you are not there. Play the game to find every reason why YOU SHOULD go and GO!  Reap the benefits of that mindset for weeks to come!
  5. Read a good book.  Allow your mind to be worked out as well rather than just worrying about what you cannot currently change.

By following some of these simple tips, you can easily make it through January and all the thoughts you have about it!  Take things one day at a time and know that where you are at is perfect and who you are is too!  All works out when you give yourself some room to breathe.

Do You Want to Win at Your Fitness Goals for 2013?

Here we go! Off and running for another year….or dancing, whichever you prefer!

This morning I woke up with the “This is it! Let’s go!”

It’s time. The holidays are now in the past but our bodies may still be struggling from the after effect of all the yummy treats , dinners and cocktails.  The line was drawn at midnight and now its time to put that action plan in place of how you will support your body in being at your healthiest for 2013!

Many times people go “all guns blazing” in January to get fit and then by February they are exhausted and done with the whole fitness regime.  Gym memberships are at an all time high in purchasing and by mid February, beginning of march an all time low for using.  It really doesn’t have to be that way.

Set yourself up to WIN this year! Create a program for yourself that you can actually follow and commit to without jeopardizing anything else you have going on this year.  Plan your workout and work your plan.

Find a fitness structure that you can set aside 60 minutes at least 1-3 times a day to begin.  Even if what you see is once a week right now, start with it. You have to walk before you run.  If you go sprinting from the gate without the training required, you will quickly quit what you started.

Go on the internet, ask the “google gods” what types of sports or fitness styles there are. Seriously, put in words of what you love to do and I assert that some types of fitness you will enjoy will come up. It’s a place to start. I found zumba by entering in “cardio fitness dance”, and POOF! There it was!  Who knows what might come up for you!

Once you discover a fitness that you will enjoy doing, find it near where you live or work. To have this resolution for 2013 really have sticking power, you have to find it near you. Statistics show that people who find fitness programs near where they live or work are more likely to stick to it. It’s a simple fact….who wants to drive an hour out of their way to work out for an hour? Keep it simple!

2013 PLAN OF ACTION!

Well the world did not end today so that means it’s time to put together your fitness schedule and get ready for the New Year!

Sorry everyone, NO EXCUSES! 😉

It is time to get to work. Not just on any job.  It is time to get to work on you! You can have 2013 be the year that you take on your own health and have fun doing it or you can “say” you will and see by the end of 2013 what got accomplished.

Start today by creating an action plan….AND MAKE IT FUN!!  When you create a routine for yourself that is fun and enjoyable, it makes it a lot easier to stick to it when the “I don’t wanna’s” show up after a long days work!

Begin with 3 days a week trying out different forms of fitness. Take classes, try a personal trainer, go walking, find what you love and then create a weekly schedule of 3-5 sessions a week.  In your plan, set aside a minimum of 60 minutes each time for yourself and no excuses that you don’t have enough time!

When you are willing to give 40+ hours a week to a job, you can most definitely give yourself 3-5 hours a week of your own time AND the benefit is chances are you will become more productive at your job by taking care of you first! Don’t take my word for it….Try it out for yourself!!

ACTION FOR TODAY:

  1. Research different types of fitness: zumba, yoga, pilates, trx, basketball, personal trainer, boot camps, running, cycling, aquatics, etc.
  2. Choose 3 different fitnesses and find a class in your area to go try out.
  3. Talk to the different instructors and let them know what you are looking for.  A great instructor will support you!

Three actions, three fitness styles, take it on in three days!
