Benefits of Movement, Health & Well Being

Here We Go 2019!

There is something about starting a New Year that allows for all of what didn’t work the year before to be put behind me.

I begin to think about what it is that I want to accomplish in the New Year and looking at what it will take to do so.

I have made New Year’s resolutions before but quickly they fell out of existence…mainly because they were “great ideas” but I failed to put a plan of action to achieve them in place.

Now, in the first week of the New Year, I fill my calendar with actions. Actions that will propel what I want to accomplish and I do it in 3 month increments. I set out my schedule of what I know I already have to do. ie. Work, homework, accounting, etc. and then I add in my personal workouts (I schedule my fitness like I do work), meetings, phone calls, etc.

Yes. I teach fitness classes, however, I also do some personal fitness goals just for me as well as a mind, body, spirit regime of reading, meditating and more. Honestly, if I do not schedule this stuff in, it doesn’t happen and I had to get really straight with myself about that.

Left to my own devices, I could binge on Netflix or find 1000 other things to do before taking care of me. Yup. I am just as guilty as the next person!

Action plans create just that….ACTION!

Imagine yourself 3 months out from where you currently are and walk back from that point to what you had to do to get there and write it all down. Use a google calendar! Put a calendar app on your phone, or if you like to go ‘old school’ write it on a piece of paper and go to work!

Remember, do not beat yourself up if you miss an action. Just put it back in existence and look towards that future you are creating.

Be kind to yourself and be in action.

Make 2019 your BEST YEAR YET!

The 4 A.M. Wake Up Call

2015 has been a year of ups and downs. It is funny to me when I share that because my real experience is that’s what EVERY year looks like and some years the ups are bigger than the downs and vice versa.

This year has been an interesting one with planning a crazy wedding, getting married, my studio location closing and finding a new place, seeing all my family, amazing honeymoon, redesigning the Live OUT LOUD movement and so much more.

In the middle of the night I woke up in a panic about all of the things I have yet to accomplish and how in the world was I going to accomplish them now or even in 2016. I began to doubt everything.  Then I looked at the clock and saw it was 4 am and that seems to be the time in my day where every goal and dream I ever cared about comes flooding in and my mind reminds me of how far away I am from everything….the only thing is….my brain is not telling the truth.

Let me explain.  Our thoughts/my thoughts will often have me think of everything I haven’t done and then I go into desperation to complete things or hide what it was I didn’t accomplish yet.  My time of day that all these thoughts come flooding into my life seems to be the awesome time of 4 am.  You know, the time of day when you really can’t do anything about it but fret and worry and wish you could go back to sleep.

It is not even that any of these negative thoughts are the truth. If I really look at my life, it is awesome. In all aspects, even in the ones that I am not succeeding at yet as much as I would like to be.  When I can step back and look at the BIG picture, relationships, career, family….it is all flourishing.

I know I am my hardest critic in life and for me, I have discovered having a talk with myself (or more importantly writing it all down) about everything that I am grateful for or have accomplished just gives me back my own freedom and power to know I am on the right track and love my life.  It is important to acknowledge all the good that comes out of your life because you are in it!  It is so easy to see what I haven’t accomplished yet and sometimes it just takes reminding myself of all that I have to see life is pretty sweet.

Take the time today to really look at what you have accomplished this past year and how awesome life has really been. You don’t have to have had some HUGE thing happen to appreciate and see how awesome your life is. You just need to see that your life IS really awesome.

Be kind to yourself today! Everyday…

Goals Goals and More Goals

With 2015 fast upon us, this is a time where many of us begin to reflect on all it is we want to accomplish in the year ahead.  It is a perfect time to journal and create what is next for you in life and with your family.

Many will have a fitness goal that may include but is not limited to:

-Quitting smoking

-Losing 5 or more pounds

-Lifting more weights

-Stop drinking alcohol (or at least moderate it)

-Come up with a weekly fitness routine

-Eating healthy

-Being stress-free

and really the list can go on and on…..

My advice as a fitness instructor is look to see what your Top 3 are and take (baby) steps in the direction of those three and develop mastery (or a plan) of how you will achieve these. Do not get down if one week the goal plan does not work exactly how you wanted it to. Rather get back up, re-adjust the plan and keep moving forward.

Have you ever noticed when you get all gung-ho about something and go FULL THROTTLE more than likely you hit the speed bumps a lot faster and then possibly a sink-hole shows up and before you know it, you have completely de-railed your best intentions?

You are not alone.
