Kindness is Contagious!

3203c6ff6272de08a5b2801f93ef18bf

In a world of busy, it is important to remember whether you are in person OR on-line you have a choice in EVERY moment to show love and kindness.

So many times I see negativity being spread on social media and just the other day, I was at the gas station and witnessed a guy yelling at a woman because in his opinion, she was taking too long at the pump.  Whenever I see this kind of behavior whether on-line or in person, I have to wonder how much energy all that negativity just sucked out of the person dishing it out and how much energy was taken away from the person who it got delivered on.

I know first-hand when I am being kind to someone in either situation, by the end I am lit up and so is the person I supported or spoke kindly to.  It is like a little energy boost without doing a physical work out. It just feels great!

I assert that when we/you/I dump negativity on someone quite the opposite occurs and a loss of energy happens. This leaves us feeling drained, unhappy and many times ready to give up.

That being said, if you want to energize your day, spend the day doing kind deeds or saying kind things to others and see how your energy level boosts!

An attitude of gratitude and sprinkling kindness everywhere you go brings on Good Karma, abundance of energy and an awesome life!

Don’t just take my word for it….GET OUT THERE AND SPRINKLE KINDNESS EVERYWHERE! 🙂

Much love,

Tammy

Smiles Can Turn Your Day Around

In this day and age, I have discovered fewer people look up at each other when walking by.  Many are immersed in their cell phones and totally oblivious to what is happening around them.

Recently, I began ensuring that when I am out walking, I have no phone in hand and my head is up and I am making EYE CONTACT with anyone who looks my way.

Why?

I have discovered that when making eye contact AND flashing a smile….in most cases even a “hello!”, “Good morning/afternoon!” seems to alter not only my view of the day but it rearranges the molecules of the person I interact with.  Someone who may look completely down in the dumps can easily shift to a smile and exhibit a sparkle in their eye!

What I believe is that we never know what is going on for another human being. It may be the worst day of their life. It may have been a mediocre start, but as soon as I bring a SMILE or a FRIENDLY GESTURE into the interaction, they light up and so do I.

My request for the remainder of the week is for everyone to put our phones down, raise our eyes to meet others and make it a GREAT WEEK for not only YOU but those whom you interact with!

You never know how that smile of yours can impact others!

Go out and see how powerful you truly are!

Be Grateful for Everything!

Keeping a healthy mind is just as important as keeping a healthy body.

Body. Mind. Spirit.

Each morning upon waking I take a few moments to lie in bed in the stillness and think of all the things I can be grateful and thankful for in my life. From the super small to the amazing large things that we sometimes consider small….like actually waking up every morning….that is actually really HUGE!

Getting present in the morning to everyone and everything in my life has me, most days, stay present to what is truly important in my life.

To share with you, today, 1. besides waking up this morning (which I am truly grateful for every morning)

2. I am grateful for my family and friends here in Toronto and in Saskatchewan and ALL over this great world. It lets me know I am not alone and there is ALWAYS someone out there that I care about and they care about me!

3. I am grateful for my bamboo sheets on my bed! As silly or materialistic as that may sound I am someone who over-heats at night and bamboo sheets help to keep me at a good temperature to be able to sleep pretty peacefully!

4. I am grateful that I get to wake up beside my husband who is my best friend and forever boyfriend!

5. I am grateful today for my nephew who is fulfilling his dreams and heading to Texas from Saskatchewan to play football this week!

6. I am grateful to be a step mom to 2 of the most beautiful, smart, funny young women in this world!

7. I am grateful that I got to spend the day with my friend Cheryl and laugh and cry and laugh some more!

8. I am grateful to be able to dance every day and go speak in schools and that it’s even COOLER when I get to do both in the SAME DAY!

9. I am forever grateful for the roof over my head and the food that is on my table each day!

10. I am grateful for dreaming and how some time it makes sense and sometimes…I think I am just hungry because I dream about making food! LOL!

What I can say is that by the time my feet hit the ground in the morning, I am present to life and all the gifts that lie within it and no matter how the day may go, good, bad, sad, however it goes, there is ALWAYS something to be grateful for…..even the simple things like being blessed enough to open my eyes and greet another day!

Mindset is everything in living a life you love.

Love you all,

Tammy

Be Your Own Valentine!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Yes, whether you have a “love” or not in your life, you do have one person who you can love and see every day……YOU!

I know I have, in the past, gotten caught up in this day as a sad day because I wasn’t in a relationship and suddenly it occurred like everyone else was.  The truth is, no matter what, you have one person to love 365 days out of the year (this year you get to love them 366 days! How sweet is that?!)….YOURSELF.

Love really begins with you and how you take care of and perceive yourself to be either amazing or a failure.  It comes down to choice.  When we are kind to ourselves, we give ourselves the room to grow in a world that is constantly changing.  If you are mean to yourself and tell yourself you are no good then you have no space to be anything that has possibility attached to it.

I declare that today is YOUR day!

Grab hold of it and make it your own! Take yourself out for lunch. Go get a massage, take a yoga class, go to the gym, dance in your kitchen, draw a nice bubble bath!  One of my favorite things to do when taking care of myself is to either pour a hot bath and set up my bathroom with Netflix and watch a movie from in the tub or just take a book in there and read.  I will then cook myself a great lunch or dinner and accompany it with a nice glass of wine.  I cheers to myself and say “Girl! YOU are pretty awesome! Keep rocking!”

It may sound crazy to some of you however, taking care of yourself FIRST will give room for others to come into your life and join you!  I met my Prince Charming only once I started to honor myself!

Try it out today!

Always remember, YOU are worth it!

Have an AMAZING Valentine’s Day!

Thursday is THE Day…..

Do you ever think about what is your favorite day of the week? For me, I think EVERYDAY is my favorite day of the week. I know that may sound corny but it is true.

Here is why…..

I used to get up and be in bad mood everyday….the only day I was happy was friday because then it was the weekend….This shifted for me a while ago.

I began to realize the importance of any day I was able to get up and get out of bed as being the best day ever.

But Why?

I began to realize that I was taking my life for granted.  I had it like everyone else’s life was better than mine and began being really stingy with being happy.

In my family, it has been constant to hear or read something from the obituaries. It is not that we are a morbid family….we just happen to be present to the obituaries.  I began thinking about those I knew (or didn’t) who lost their lives at a young age and began to become very present to the life I have everyday.

I noticed that I was taking it for granted that the next day would “just be there”…like I am sure some of those who lost their lives did when there was no sign that the next day they would no longer be with us.  When I began to get myself present to this, I began to see my life in a whole new way.

Everyday became awesome and I could discover reasons why everyday of the week really IS awesome!  Here is my theory on the week, take it or leave it or CREATE YOUR OWN:

  1. NO MATTER WHAT everyday is a gift when I can open my eyes and take a deep breathe.
  2. Mondays: Amazing because for me Mondays get the whole week moving! I use it as my planning day in between teaching 3 classes. I like to call them MUSIC MONDAYS. Many times Mondays are when I pick a few new songs to incorporate into the week.
  3. Tuesdays: This day ROCKS because whatever I did on monday, tends to play out here! New music means NEW choreo and I get to take it into class on Tuesdays! It is also a day that I do alot of coaching and I love getting to talk with people!  This is my dog’s favorite day because he goes to Doggy Daycare while I work and plays with all his friends! 🙂
  4. Wednesdays: Come on! Everyone knows why this day ROCKS….IT’S HUMP DAY! WOOHOO! Middle of the week day is always awesome!  I typically have it be a day that I get groceries and clean so I enjoy the time I spend working on making my house a home.
  5. Thursdays: This day is magnificent! My step-daughter (s) come to stay with us on this day so we have so much fun cooking and doing our nails and watching movies together!
  6. Fridays: Funday! That is what it really should be called!  This day really ties up everything that happened during the week. I make a point to respond to emails, look to see what is incomplete that I may need to schedule for the next week and then I do date night with my one and only usually!
  7. Saturdays: I start the day teaching at 9am….there is no better way to kick start the weekend than an aqua zumba class! Workout is done by 945am and I have the whole day to clean, go to a gallery, go shopping, listen to music or just chill!
  8. Sundays: RELAXATION day. Or at least I try! This is the only day of the week that I do NO fitness.  Gotta give the body a wee break from time to time.

Everyday I go to work (except sundays), teach classes, coach and every day continues to have ups and downs and I usually start each day with working by 7am or 8am and finish about 930pm and I LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT!

Why?

To go right back to my point #1, no matter what is happening in my life, no matter how busy, how challenging….Everyday is a great day when I can open my eyes and take a deep breathe.

Not everyone gets that opportunity everyday so my request to you…..

LOVE EVERY MINUTE WHILE YOU HAVE IT!

Let’s Get Aquainted….

So here I am….Tammy…38 years old….married for a second time…no biological children (2 step daughters who are super awesome)….me, living in Toronto.

Never would have seen this coming in my early twenties! That is actually the part of my story I think I love the most….I FEEL SO ALIVE NOW!

It really didn’t look like it does now many years ago, basically starting as a teen (but we will get to that later…let’s start with the 20 somethings…)

I got married for the first time when I just turned 20…thought I knew better, that I met Mr. Right…I realized after many years of blaming him for everything that we really were too young to really know what we wanted out of life.  Being divorced at any time is never a fun label to carry and I found being a divorcee by the time I was 25 living in a small “city” (pop. 34,000) quite a devastating experience at the time.  I couldn’t walk into any place without seeing a few people lean over to whisper and either giggle with their friends at me or just the sadness and sympathy they felt for me in what I was going through….but nobody wanted to speak up and talk to me about it….frankly, I do not know what I would have said.  It was not a good time for me.  I went through a period where I was so distraught I wouldn’t eat. My mom ended up taking me to emergency where they put me on antidepressants. I quickly learned that for me, this was not a good option and I had to get off of them quickly. (For some it really does make a difference so for sure stay under your doctors care)

Along with a relationship you don’t wish upon your worst enemy, was the weight gain and unhealthy eating habits.  In high school I was always very petite, 5’9″, 110 lbs….by 25 I was topping 175lbs and boy could I feel it. Being tall, you couldn’t notice it as much BUT I could feel it!

I smoked about a half a pack to a pack a day, depending on how “stressed out” I felt I was.  Woke up every morning feeling like I had been licking dirt! Yep! That is about as good as a half a pack or more of cigarettes taste like by morning!

I had gotten myself trapped in a routine of bad food (anything deep-fried or made with bread…YUM), smoking, and an all around negative attitude and feeling sorry for myself all the time.  Frankly, I was sick of being around me too!

I can’t tell you the exact day it all happened. Sometime after I moved back home with my parents, having to start all over again (I moved out after I just turned 18 so for me, although my parents are super awesome…this was a kick to my pride BIG TIME!), sometime between the counselling sessions I was going to and the Tony Robbins tape someone gave me to listen to, I decided enough was enough.

I do remember being in my car on a hot day and feeling the rolls of my belly producing sweat while I puffed on my cigarette and hearing Tony Robbins say “you don’t smoke to get cancer, you smoke to TRY and feel good and in the end you might get cancer…” or something to that effect…and it was in that moment, the pack of cigarettes I had bought got thrown out of the car (sorry Mother Nature…I should have put them in the garbage I know…it was an impulsive moment that had I waited to find a garbage can…I may have kept smoking!), I grabbed a towel and wiped away my belly sweat and thought…this is it.

I had been driving home from some small town. My parents greeted me and asked how I was. I remember telling them that I was now a non-smoker and they were excited to find out for how long. I told them 1 hour.  You can understand why they may not have believed me in that moment but they said “Good for you!”  If there is one thing that I have always had that is loving parents and brothers…not sure how they have loved me after some of the stuff I have done but they still do to this day!

Knowing that I was already over weight and now with quitting smoking I was bound to balloon even bigger, I got a hold of a friend of mine who was a trainer and asked him if he would help me get in shape.  He agreed.  I was so embarrassed physically, mentally and emotionally by what I had allowed to have happen to me in my marriage and what I had allowed my health to get to that I begged him to find a way that I wouldn’t have to face the “fitness” people at the gym.

I will never forget it.

My trainer obtained a key to the gym for us to go in after hours. He would set up a movie on the TV and we would run on the treadmills and watch movies and then weight train. I can honestly say, it was one of the most fun times I had….no one whispering, no one cared. Certainly not myself or my trainer.

Over the course of 8-10 months with a fitness plan in place and seeing a Naturopath to sort out what supplements to take and how to eat, I dropped just over 50 lbs.  I began to feel like ME again.  The fitness program, reading positive books, learning to cook and eat healthy, I regained my confidence to take on my life.

Shortly after I got back to being ME, I had an opportunity to come to Toronto for a conference.  When the plane began to descend over Toronto I had a sense of being “at home” for the first time in my life. I knew I was going to live in Toronto the moment that plane touched down….it was all a matter of when…..and how crazy was I?

Want to know more?

Stay Tuned….. Can anyone relate?
