Weather and Importance of Movement

I don’t know about you but I am DEEPLY affected by weather conditions. Some people think that is crazy. I am here to tell you that I do not believe it is crazy AT ALL!

This year I have been personally struggling. 

On cold rainy days, I want nothing more than to crawl into my bed and wait it out.  Had I done that though, I would still be hibernating between my sheets and we are halfway through May!

I have always been affected by weather.  It is a REAL THING so please know you are not alone if you have these feelings in your body show up. Symptoms include: pain in low back and neck, pressure headaches, eyes aching, respiratory issues, aching all over, mood swings.

For many of you who know me, you may be thinking this is ridiculous that I am saying this happens to me as I come across as cheerful most of the time…I am not and experience all these symptoms quite regularly with our current weather system.

Honestly, there is really only one true Godsend that I have found that works for me……MOVEMENT and lots of it!

Movement has been imperative to my health and even more so with the long winter we have had this year.

I struggle most days to “want” to get up and move. The good news for me is, it is my career so not really a choice to say “ah, I will go tomorrow.”  There are days I just feel my brain screaming “I do not want to do this today!” and everyday that these internal struggles show up, I know I have to go whether I like it or not and here is the best part….

It’s really juicy….EVERY TIME the music comes on, within 5 seconds of the first beat, everything begins to shift. It’s like coming up from holding your breathe under water for a long time. That first inhale is so refreshing…As the music and dance continues on, I can feel my WHOLE body and mind coming ALIVE as if I had been in a coma prior to that moment.  By the end of 60 minutes, those pains, breathing, headache, mood swings…they are GONE!

I am AWAKE. I am ALIVE. I am ME AGAIN!

The hardest part in all of it is just getting myself to the location of a class. Once there, the whole world shifts.

In all my 42 years I have never found something that holds such a profound impact on not just my physical health but my mental and emotional health as well all at the same time.

I have spoke to many ladies recently who I am clear are dealing with the same thing. Many have commented on “I was going to come but I am just so tired right now.” Or “I was going to come but this weather has got me down.”

I want you to know I get it. I want you to know I experience it too.

I want you to know there is a way past all of that for you to FEEL GREAT even now, with the weather the way it is.

I cannot change Mother Nature, however, I can shift what I am doing to have my life working and positive no matter what Mother Nature decides to do, and YOU CAN TOO!

You are not alone.

HAPPY FAMILY DAY!!!

Happy Family Day to all our clients, friends and family!

Today is a great day to be reminded of the importance of family and you can take on working out your own plan to have Family Day happening all the time in your home (if you don’t already).

Family is important and keeping the lines of communication always open will build strength in your family.

Physical activity can be a great way to participate as a family together!

Discover Your Passion and Make it Your Purpose!

Before creating the LOL Movement, I used to work many different jobs….for years I worked behind a desk as an office manager. Before that in ophthalmology and prior to that managing gyms and offices.  I would go from job to job thinking “this will be THE ONE!”

Does this sound familiar?

Excited at first. Delighted with the tasks I had in front of me and then at some point….I would lose my passion or drive for it.  It became a J-O-B….just something I did to pay the bills. While I continue to do it well, in my heart I always would know when the passion for it had left.

Upon discovering Zumba it was like my whole body came alive. I never saw it as a career or something I would be passionate about. It was just that class I took on Thursdays that allowed me to stop thinking or worrying for an hour.  When my instructor approached me one day and said I should teach this, I thought she had lost it….but later that night I began to think about it and weeks later, I found a training and threw my hat over the wall and went for it.

Best decision I ever made!

I started out small….teaching one class a week for about 6 months….then two classes for about another 6 months….then four a week….then (rearranging my day job to accommodate more classes) six classes a week…..then it just got out of control!

I realized that what I was doing for fun and what I loved were colliding together and it was awesome. I was suddenly consumed by choreographing…dancing on the subway to make up new routines…figuring out how I could do more classes and who else could benefit from this!

My passion became my purpose.  Now, nearly 2 years later on my own building this, I continue to live my passion and know that my purpose is to have people see how AMAZING they truly are and what they CAN accomplish.

Are there struggles? Yes.

Do I always win? No.

Do I get back up and keep going? Yes.

Will I ever give up on anyone? No.

Everyday is a gift. The moment your eyes open, you have been given another day to make the most of. Do not play small. Go for your dreams. Create visions. Dance like nobody is watching…..LIVE!

The Stockyards of Toronto ROCKS With Zumba!!

Summer is almost over and we couldn’t be happier….not about summer ending! About Zumba classes heating up The Stockyards of Toronto!

Whether you are new to any type of fitness or you are a regular fitness of all kinds-lover, your life can be totally altered in a FUN and EXCITING way by taking a weekly Zumba class with us!

Why is it FUN and EXCITING? Thanks for asking!!

Well, we keep the moves simple…as Ricardo Marmitte(Zumba Education Specialist) once said…”Keep it simple for your students. You want to be a show dancer? Go to Vegas!!” Yep! We are not going to Vegas! We love the bright lights of The Stockyards!

This is what keeps it fun….your attention is NOT on getting all the choreo down…it’s about hearing the music and moving to 3-4 simple moves per song.

The exciting part, in my opinion, can be the playlist and the unexpected things that can happen! The playlist gets changed up by a few songs almost each week, with of course, a few songs staying the same for a few weeks so you can really groove out by knowing what’s coming next! Unexpected things happening….there was this one time where I apparently “twerked”….yah, that was NOT a planned move AND I had to go watch a You Tube video on this new phenomenon to know what it actually was! 😉

We also have a community feel to our classes, we plan events and go out together from time to time. New friends have been made that will last a lifetime! See, we are not just about being a fitness class! These classes are so much more than that!  Come check it out for yourselves and see what we mean.

Guaranteed Way to Stick to Your Fitness Resolution This Year!

Are you in to making New Years resolutions? If you are, have you ever made a fitness resolution?  Have you stuck with it for an entire year? For many people the answer is yes I have and no I have not stuck to it.

I completely get that, relate to it and I think I may have discovered what a lot of the problem with that is…have you guessed yet?  I have said this many times in the year and strongly believe that referring to your fitness as a “work”out is really a un-workable term to use.  You work enough in life, in my opinion!  You go to work,  you work on your relationships/marriage, everywhere you look…you are working! So why not relate to something as “FUN” ….a “fun”out perhaps? YES! A fun out! What a better way to get fit is there then to find the way you love to have fun as an exercise and do a whole lot of that!

One of my clients had this to say:

“After years of doing very little fitness and every year saying I would do it…THIS YEAR FOR SURE… I realized why I didn’t stick to it was because it was just one more thing to do on my “to do” list.  I never really liked running but it was easy to do except for I got bored and sometimes frustrated trying to come up with new places to run and counting how many kilometres was the distance from here to there to figure out how far I would go each day.  I also didn’t like dealing with the weather if I went running outside and the inside option of running just really had me be bored…  I tried weight training…that didn’t last long…picking up my children after a long day was really enough “weight training” in my day that I actually enjoyed!  I was frustrated trying to find something that I could do just for me that would have me stick to my fitness goals.  When I was younger, I used to love to go hit the clubs with my girlfriends and dance but as we got older, we slowed down going and eventually stopped.  I missed those days.  Then I discovered Zumba! I discovered your classes!  The first few times I came I missed I think every step but you warned me ahead of time that as long as I was moving and grooving to the music, I was doing awesome and the steps would come, and they did!  I am hooked and having fun every week now!    Surprisingly I just learned I am burning a TON of calories but most importantly I am doing something that suits what I love and I don’t experience it as work.  Sometimes I think I will miss a class but then I drag myself there and by the time the first song is a few seconds in I am dancing away smiling, laughing and so happy to feel my body coming alive. I have been learning what it is to have fun again. I am so happy! I never thought about it until I started coming to your Zumba classes but a fun out is totally possible! “ ~S.T. Office Manager

If you experience fitness as a chore or something you “have to do” and are not lit up by it, you may not get the results you desire either.  Zumba is about music. It is about moving, sweating, laughing and making a difference for you and all the people around you!

Give Yourself the Gift of Fitness!

As we approach the 30 day point to christmas, I find myself wanting to give the gift of fitness even more! I know that none of us want the figure of Rob Ford (couldn’t help myself…hehehehehe) so now is the time to put in the “workout” to keep up with the extra goodies we all know we will indulge in!

Why not give yourself a little freedom this season to eat the stuff you want to (in moderation of course)?  Many people begin their “fit living” AFTER the holidays. Why not start BEFORE?

It is never too late or too early to start a fitness plan.  By joining a zumba program not only will you burn lots of calories but you will get some NEW dance moves to take to your christmas party this year! It is a win win!!
