Do You Get the Mid Week Blues?

Never fear! Zumba Basics is HERE!!! 🙂

Okay, yes. I do get quite excited about this.

Here is why….many years ago now (before I found Zumba) I used to find Tuesdays to be a very long day and by the time Wednesday rolled around, I would be feeling super tired and wishing for the weekend….since discovering the great world of Zumba AND doing a Zumba class every wednesday, my energy to kick it through the week has been AMAZING!

I personally just want everyone to have amazing days and incredible weeks and now that we have moved into this uber cool spot of High Park Brewery, it has made it even MORE FUN (if that was even possible)!!

This location is especially great for those who have friends or family who want to join you but may or may not want to actually do the class for now.  They can come, sit on the patio or inside, enjoy a cold pint or soda, listen to the music and pick up on the energy whether they are doing the class or not! Pretty cool!

You get to do your fitness class AND spend time with those you care about! OR, if you just need a night away from everyone, this is just a really awesome place to get your groove on with some pretty spectacular ladies!!

Come a few minutes early to get signed in!

Cost: $20 gets you the class & a ticket for a pint of beer or soda after class!

Wear comfy clothes you don’t mind sweating in! 🙂 And Runners are a must!

Bring a reusable water bottle (We got lots so you can keep filling up!)

Be ready to have fun and let loose!

High Park Brewery Zumba & a Pint Wednesday August 7th @ 6:45pm

This may sound a little crazy to some but I have always wanted to do Zumba in a cool brewery or night club!

The environment to me just screams ZUMBAAAA!!!

I am so happy that last week we got to do Zumba in High Park Brewery! We had 30 people on the floor doing zumba and around 50 people (dancers & non-dancers) in the brewery for the night! It was an awesome event bringing our community together! We even had 2 babies & 3 dogs! It really is a space for everyone 2-legged and 4-legged!

The feedback I received was awesome! 

“The parking is amazing! Free! And so much of it!”

“That was the most fun Zumba class!”

“You could feel the energy in the brewery”

“That beer was delicious!!”

“When can we do that again? I want to bring my friends!”

“That was easy to follow! It was my first time!”

And the feedback continued throughout the night….

At the end of the night, Ted & I (one of the amazing owners of the brewery) sat there talking about how great the night was….then we said s if reading each others minds…..”Let’s do it again!!” 🙂

We both agreed we didn’t want to wait too long, so Wednesday August 7th is the PERFECT date!

Here is the “What You Need to Know:

  • Wednesday August 7 @ 6:45pm  HIGH PARK BREWERY (839 Runnymede Road)
  • Zumba Basics (meaning anyone can do it! 3-4 moves per song)
  • $20 for Zumba class & a pint of delicious High Park Brewery beer OR a soft drink
  • Wear comfy breathable clothes & runners
  • Bring a reusable water bottle (We got lots to keep filling it!:)
  • Bring your friends, neighbors, family 2-legged & 4-legged if you like! They can do the class or just enjoy a cold pint or BOTH!

There is no food at the brewery but you are welcome to bring food in! Pick up a pizza, roti, chicken, whatever you like! You CAN eat it in the brewery!

Come a little early to get signed in! If you have not come before, there is a form you need to fill out, so please give yourself at minimum 5-10 minutes to get signed in and ready to begin!

Summer Is On Its Way!

Well almost….and when it’s here the real question is…will you be ready?

Last night I was suffering with a major migraine due to weather pressure. I felt terrible and almost cancelled class.  Instead I persevered and went and by the end of 60 minutes, my migraine had disappeared all together!

Dancing is not just about the physical activity. It is also about the mental, emotional and re-arrangement of all your molecules you can get out of it!

Finding Joy In Your Life

Believe it or not before I found dance again in my life, I was quite an unhappy person.

The discovery of zumba fitness, for me, was like the opportunity to go around the world in 60 minutes without having to pay for an “around the world” trip!  The music takes us to places you may never have visited but always wanted to.  The steps are easy to follow so I was not trying to be a part of the National Ballet or anything in competition.

I could move, get lost in the music and what I didn’t realize at the time was how healthy that would be for my mind.  I had it like I was doing this because I wanted to get into shape. What I came out of it with was a smile on my face every time and not one that I had to push myself to do. I was just naturally happier than I had ever been!

I was researching today some of the benefits to dancing and found this on the Prevention.com site about a study that was conducted:

Swedish researchers, writing in the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, studied 112 teenage girls who were struggling with problems including neck and back pain, stress, anxiety, and depression. Half of the girls attended weekly dance classes, while the other half didn’t. The results? The girls who took the dance classes improved their mental health and reported a boost in mood—positive effects that lasted up to eight months after the classes ended.

“According to these results, despite problems such as stress and other potential challenges in being an adolescent girl, dance can result in high adherence and a positive experience for the participants,” says lead study author Anna Dubert, of Sweden’s Center for Health Care Sciences, in a press release. “[This] might contribute to sustained new healthy habits.”  (taken from prevention.com site)

This is the result that was shown in teens.  Now imagine, you as an adult, the results that it can produce.

Dancing is not only about movement but the music can literally have your mind clear which can be one of the biggest parts of the battle when you are grumpy or upset about something.

If you are having a bad day I request you do not go home and indulge in it….get yourself to a fitness class STAT! Do not listen to the negative thoughts you are having.

No matter how terrible you are feeling in the moment….put on your work out clothes, strap on your shoes and get yourself to the nearest class.  If you are still struggling to get yourself out of the house, take an emergency dance break in your house….crank up the radio, your ipod with your favorite song and dance like nobody is watching! It’s like calling 9-1-1 for your soul!

Your body and mind will thank you for it.
