Here We Go 2019!

There is something about starting a New Year that allows for all of what didn’t work the year before to be put behind me.

I begin to think about what it is that I want to accomplish in the New Year and looking at what it will take to do so.

I have made New Year’s resolutions before but quickly they fell out of existence…mainly because they were “great ideas” but I failed to put a plan of action to achieve them in place.

Now, in the first week of the New Year, I fill my calendar with actions. Actions that will propel what I want to accomplish and I do it in 3 month increments. I set out my schedule of what I know I already have to do. ie. Work, homework, accounting, etc. and then I add in my personal workouts (I schedule my fitness like I do work), meetings, phone calls, etc.

Yes. I teach fitness classes, however, I also do some personal fitness goals just for me as well as a mind, body, spirit regime of reading, meditating and more. Honestly, if I do not schedule this stuff in, it doesn’t happen and I had to get really straight with myself about that.

Left to my own devices, I could binge on Netflix or find 1000 other things to do before taking care of me. Yup. I am just as guilty as the next person!

Action plans create just that….ACTION!

Imagine yourself 3 months out from where you currently are and walk back from that point to what you had to do to get there and write it all down. Use a google calendar! Put a calendar app on your phone, or if you like to go ‘old school’ write it on a piece of paper and go to work!

Remember, do not beat yourself up if you miss an action. Just put it back in existence and look towards that future you are creating.

Be kind to yourself and be in action.

Make 2019 your BEST YEAR YET!

Goals Goals and More Goals

With 2015 fast upon us, this is a time where many of us begin to reflect on all it is we want to accomplish in the year ahead.  It is a perfect time to journal and create what is next for you in life and with your family.

Many will have a fitness goal that may include but is not limited to:

-Quitting smoking

-Losing 5 or more pounds

-Lifting more weights

-Stop drinking alcohol (or at least moderate it)

-Come up with a weekly fitness routine

-Eating healthy

-Being stress-free

and really the list can go on and on…..

My advice as a fitness instructor is look to see what your Top 3 are and take (baby) steps in the direction of those three and develop mastery (or a plan) of how you will achieve these. Do not get down if one week the goal plan does not work exactly how you wanted it to. Rather get back up, re-adjust the plan and keep moving forward.

Have you ever noticed when you get all gung-ho about something and go FULL THROTTLE more than likely you hit the speed bumps a lot faster and then possibly a sink-hole shows up and before you know it, you have completely de-railed your best intentions?

You are not alone.

Allow us, at the LOL Movement, to support you in discovering what is important to you and help you to create a road map to success.  Our zumba/laughter yoga classes are not just about coming out and dancing &/or laughing, we create community! If you have goals, dreams, desires of what your fitness program could look like this year, let us know and we can support you in reaching those goals!

You are not alone.

We are here to work alongside you and have your life work! It is what we are all about!

Guaranteed Way to Stick to Your Fitness Resolution This Year!

Are you in to making New Years resolutions? If you are, have you ever made a fitness resolution?  Have you stuck with it for an entire year? For many people the answer is yes I have and no I have not stuck to it.

I completely get that, relate to it and I think I may have discovered what a lot of the problem with that is…have you guessed yet?  I have said this many times in the year and strongly believe that referring to your fitness as a “work”out is really a un-workable term to use.  You work enough in life, in my opinion!  You go to work,  you work on your relationships/marriage, everywhere you look…you are working! So why not relate to something as “FUN” ….a “fun”out perhaps? YES! A fun out! What a better way to get fit is there then to find the way you love to have fun as an exercise and do a whole lot of that!

One of my clients had this to say:

“After years of doing very little fitness and every year saying I would do it…THIS YEAR FOR SURE… I realized why I didn’t stick to it was because it was just one more thing to do on my “to do” list.  I never really liked running but it was easy to do except for I got bored and sometimes frustrated trying to come up with new places to run and counting how many kilometres was the distance from here to there to figure out how far I would go each day.  I also didn’t like dealing with the weather if I went running outside and the inside option of running just really had me be bored…  I tried weight training…that didn’t last long…picking up my children after a long day was really enough “weight training” in my day that I actually enjoyed!  I was frustrated trying to find something that I could do just for me that would have me stick to my fitness goals.  When I was younger, I used to love to go hit the clubs with my girlfriends and dance but as we got older, we slowed down going and eventually stopped.  I missed those days.  Then I discovered Zumba! I discovered your classes!  The first few times I came I missed I think every step but you warned me ahead of time that as long as I was moving and grooving to the music, I was doing awesome and the steps would come, and they did!  I am hooked and having fun every week now!    Surprisingly I just learned I am burning a TON of calories but most importantly I am doing something that suits what I love and I don’t experience it as work.  Sometimes I think I will miss a class but then I drag myself there and by the time the first song is a few seconds in I am dancing away smiling, laughing and so happy to feel my body coming alive. I have been learning what it is to have fun again. I am so happy! I never thought about it until I started coming to your Zumba classes but a fun out is totally possible! “ ~S.T. Office Manager

If you experience fitness as a chore or something you “have to do” and are not lit up by it, you may not get the results you desire either.  Zumba is about music. It is about moving, sweating, laughing and making a difference for you and all the people around you!

If you are planning on having a fitness New Years resolution, come try out one of my classes for free.  There is no harm in trying something new! You never know where THIS fitness journey may take you!  With rhythms from around the world, I will transport you on a journey through culture, movement and FUN!

HAPPY 2014!!!

Did You Fall Victim to Blue Monday?

Blue Monday is absurd!!

Yes! I think I actually have a rant today! This morning I was lying in bed listening to the radio and the Dj’s began saying how terrible today is and that it is probably one of the worst days of the year. Yep! That is a positive way to kick off people’s Mondays!

<insert sarcasm here>

They said that today is called “Blue Monday” as it is one of the most depressing days for people because it is 3 weeks since New Year’s and for many their New Year’s resolution is officially over and the reality of another year quite the same as the last one is now beginning.  They said people are depressed because there is also no holiday until this time in February either so people are just stuck with how life looks today. AND THEN, to top it all off….they start in on the weather and how terrible it’s going to be this week.

Man! After hearing all of that, no wonder it is “blue Monday!!” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! I even struggled to get out of bed after hearing all of that!! Good thing I don’t struggle for long!

I propose we should call today, “NEW BEGINNINGS MONDAY!!”  An opportunity to evaluate where you are with any goals you may have set and then an opportunity to put back in the rigger to whatever goals you have!

My point is, don’t give up on what you wish to achieve this year just because some really depressing story some person, whoever they are, created to call “Blue Monday.”  Stop being “normal” and be outstanding by getting back up again and shooting for the stars!  Each week take an opportunity to look and see if you’re sticking to your goals and if not, look to see if you really committed to them and if you are, put it back in and MAKE IT HAPPEN!! J

You can either be a victim of what people “say” or you can create your own story that lifts you up about this day! I LOVE NEW BEGINNINGS MONDAY!!!

Do You Want to Win at Your Fitness Goals for 2013?

Here we go! Off and running for another year….or dancing, whichever you prefer!

This morning I woke up with the “This is it! Let’s go!”

It’s time. The holidays are now in the past but our bodies may still be struggling from the after effect of all the yummy treats , dinners and cocktails.  The line was drawn at midnight and now its time to put that action plan in place of how you will support your body in being at your healthiest for 2013!

Many times people go “all guns blazing” in January to get fit and then by February they are exhausted and done with the whole fitness regime.  Gym memberships are at an all time high in purchasing and by mid February, beginning of march an all time low for using.  It really doesn’t have to be that way.

Set yourself up to WIN this year! Create a program for yourself that you can actually follow and commit to without jeopardizing anything else you have going on this year.  Plan your workout and work your plan.

Find a fitness structure that you can set aside 60 minutes at least 1-3 times a day to begin.  Even if what you see is once a week right now, start with it. You have to walk before you run.  If you go sprinting from the gate without the training required, you will quickly quit what you started.

Go on the internet, ask the “google gods” what types of sports or fitness styles there are. Seriously, put in words of what you love to do and I assert that some types of fitness you will enjoy will come up. It’s a place to start. I found zumba by entering in “cardio fitness dance”, and POOF! There it was!  Who knows what might come up for you!

Once you discover a fitness that you will enjoy doing, find it near where you live or work. To have this resolution for 2013 really have sticking power, you have to find it near you. Statistics show that people who find fitness programs near where they live or work are more likely to stick to it. It’s a simple fact….who wants to drive an hour out of their way to work out for an hour? Keep it simple!

If you want fitness programs brought into your workplace, contact me! I make it very simple for people to stick to their goals by bringing my programs to you as an option!

Once you have the routine down on 1-3 classes a week, you can increase the number of classes or tweak what you are already doing.

Plan to WIN in 2013!

Are You Ready For 2013?

Tis the season….where sugar cookies are on every corner, shopping and wrapping can become a daily ritual and merry cheer with friends is always near!

It is also the season where many reduce or stop their fitness routines all together until the new year thus causing millions of people around the world to make a resolution to work out more in the New Year….and then the cycle begins for many of a few months of working out and then allowing “life” to get in the way once again and the year goes flying by and we are back having the same conversation.

I honestly believe this continues to happen because people do not take the time to find a fitness routine that will actually work for them.  Starting fitness in January could look like “I promised it to myself and I am going to make every effort”…rather than saying “this year I will find the fitness routine that I LOVE and am INSPIRED to do every day…even during the year’s upcoming holidays!”

Take time this year to start in December trying all of the different types of fitness, find the one that you love and are inspired by and book yourself right away! Make the commitment and watch your life and health evolve! Do not wait until January to start your new fitness regime!

Think about, if you waited around for all your wants……….I don’t think I need to say anymore……..;)
