Zumba is so much fun!

If you are someone who goes to the gym and counts the minutes until your workout is over…it may be time for you to try something different.

I was there once too…

I used to go to the gym and get on a treadmill and within 4 minutes (and I may be stretching that a little to make it seem like I really gave it all I had to make it to 5 minutes…) all I could think of was how long I had to keep doing this to reach the end.

Sound familiar?

Don’t get me wrong.  The gym can be GREAT! Some people really love it and I encourage my clients to switch it up and go if it inspires them. Trying different things can keep you from plateauing in your workouts.

When I found Zumba, my first reaction to the video I watched was “This is AMAZING!! I wanna do this!”

When I found my first class and went my first reaction was (tons of laughter from me) and “What the heck am I doing? I must look like a clown right now!”

The difference between yoga classes and Zumba classes (besides the obvious differences) is this…when you laugh and can’t stop in is fun and contagious….when you laugh and can’t stop in yoga…they kick you out…

I learned that one on my own too

(hence why I also teach Laughter Yoga…Kinda more my style)

After taking a few Zumba classes (started out with one a week), I began to know the moves a little more and fell in love with music and how FAST the class went.  I felt like I just stepped into class and suddenly we were at the cooldown.

Just like that I was sweaty, relaxed and DONE my workout!! Felt so good!!

Each week came with more moves, new rhythms and then this class called Zumba Toning started and class was different but still as much fun as regular Zumba.  Then came Zumba Senato!!

What??!! All this from the Zumba Family??

The great part was that this class gave me a new way to continue doing what I loved and a new way to work my muscles so I didn’t plateau in my workouts.

Fast forward to 10 years now…2 years as a student and coming up 8 years teaching.

People often as me “Is Zumba just a fad?”

Honestly, I don’t know…I have been doing it for a decade now and I am not bored and have no interest in quitting. I love it. It is passion. It is play. It is sweaty fun with an AMAZING community of people! I cannot imagine going back to anything else.

I think there are quite a few people out there, just like me, that a decade has passed and we are all wondering where the time went because it is just that AWESOME and easy to get hooked doing it!

Hope you come have some laughs, sweat and groove moves with us all soon! It is NEVER too late to start!

Much love,

Hudson the Boxer LOVES Zumba! His Story & Video!

Anyone who has been to my classes in the Stockyards area has met Hudson, my boxer.  What you may not know is how much Hudson LOVES to dance!

Hudson has been with me since I started my zumba career. He was 12 weeks old when we brought him home. (He is 6 years old now and by the video below…you will see he has mastered his zumba moves!)

(How could you not love that lil face!)

I have always found ways to incorporate Hudson into my lifestyle. When I worked an office job, I enrolled my employers in allowing me to bring him to work. (He rarely ever barks…maybe twice a year) They agreed and Hudson and I would walk 45 minutes to work and home each day just so we could spend the day together.

(Seriously, wouldn’t you want to work with him all day?)

Now that I teach zumba full-time, I take Hudson with me to whatever classes I can! He LOVES meeting all the ladies and is always up for pets, hugs, kisses! He is kept on leash at class mainly because he would be right in the middle of class jumping and interrupting if he could!

Hudson knows that when the music comes on loud that he needs to let the ladies go to class and he lays down on his blanket and watches them all zumba!  When the stretch song comes on, you will often see Hudson raise his head and stretch and then go into downward dog pose.  (I am thinking he was in the fitness industry in another life! lol)

(Best Friends Forever!)

After everyone leaves, usually after morning classes, I let Hudson off his leash and he and I dance!  This particular song, Zumba High, makes him soooooooooo happy! Every time I play it he just starts jumping and dancing and having a great old time!

(Hudson even got into halloween zumba with us!)

I couldn’t help but make this video of him dancing to his favorite song!

We hope this brightens your day as much as Hudson brightens all of ours everyday!

Please feel free to LIKE and SHARE this video everywhere to make people smile!

Challenge Yourself and Have Fun!

Have you ever said “Oh I can’t do that. I don’t know how”?….consider that at some point in your life you didn’t know how to do A LOT of things and overtime, you learned how to do them and the ones that you really enjoyed doing you now do more of.

Make sense?

Taking a zumba class is no different.  I have people say to me “Oh, I can’t do that, I don’t know how to dance…” I think to myself “that is awesome! Now you can learn!”

Listen, I was not born with latin hip wiggles….I did not come into this world doing the salsa….I did not do hip hop moves all the way to school each day….I came into this world no different from you…..screaming and crying and rather shocked that I was no longer in my warm incubator!

So take a chance….come try it out. Do not say you cannot do something.  Zumba is actually quite simple….3-4 moves per song….if you miss a step, make up your own and keep on truckin’! The only way you are doing it wrong is if you stop moving all together for an entire song.

You may surprise yourself at how good you really are! Specials on until January 31, 2015!

Do Not Give Up!

When coming out to a class, you will always see the best results when you stick to your classes and come a minimum 2-3 times a week.  This is around the time of year when many people give up on their fitness resolution because either:

a) They went hard right out of the gate and have injured themselves

b) Decided that they are not seeing the results fast enough

c) Decide that it takes too much time and they are TOO busy

I am sure there are more reasons than this and these are some of the top.

Here is the thing…when you realized that you needed/wanted to do something about your health, did you consider all the time that you didn’t take care of yourself that got you to where you are?

I do not ask anyone that to make them wrong. I hope by asking that, we can see that we need to be kind to ourselves and find a plan that works for us long term to see the results we really want and to be proud of ourselves. There is no “fast food” fitness program. It takes time.

Have you ever noticed how proud you are of yourself when you stick to a project and complete it or move it forward in big chunks?  I LOVE IT!

When doing our zumba classes, we want you to have fun and enjoy the process of meeting your fitness goals. Stick to it and I promise you will see the results and feel better!

Don’t give up having fun….I mean really, why would you? 😉

I know you are worth it! Take care of you and feel good all over!

20 Minutes Can Easily Turn Into 60 Minutes of AWESOME FUN!

Do you think that you need to have a “certain amount of time” to make a workout worth it?

You are not alone….many people do.

If you only have 20 minutes in your day….putting in a 20 minute power walk…20 minute stretching session….20 minutes with the radio cranked and you dancing in your office or living room…whatever it is that gets your heart rate up and sweating will have you feeling like a million bucks!

We often take care of everything and everyone around us but we neglect giving ourselves even just a little bit of time that could actually end up making you more productive, more calm, more of all the “good stuff”!

Start small. Start with 20 minutes a day and take it on as a challenge.

Riddle for you:

How do you eat an elephant?

One bite at a time.

Take one step in the direction of taking care of you and I promise you the benefits are out of this world!

If you start with 20 minutes, before you know it….60 minutes will seem like 5 minutes! Easy Easy! 🙂

Are You Looking to “Lose Weight?”

Our language really does create our world.  The intention to lose weight is great but then that really does give an opening for you to find it again.

When you are out to transform your body, it is important to not just look at “weight”. Look at your language and inches! It can be very discouraging if all you are doing is stepping on a scale once a week.  When you are working out and toning your body, you are building muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat.  It is most important to track your inches.  Inches around your shoulders, chest, waist, hips and thighs will give you a better picture of how you are doing along your fitness journey.

At the LOL Movement classes, if you wish to be measured and be tracked with your inch by inch look at what you are up to in your fitness goals, we can and will provide this for you!

In the meantime, if you are talking about “losing” weight, we suggest you just get rid of it and not find it again! 😉
