Taking On Over-all Health Begins With a Workout!

I could not be MORE EXCITED to kick off this week with ALL Zumba classes ON!

I cannot wait to dance and play with all of you this week!

I have been learning so much out of a difficult few months how important physical activity really is….not just for physical health but being able to clear my mind and keep moving forward by literally putting one foot in front of the other and sometimes side to side in a Cha-Cha-Cha.

On the days when I really didn’t want to (and yes, even as instructors we have those moments) I got up and went and by the end of dancing for 60 minutes, I felt amazing again and clear-headed to be able to go back to my family and make a difference for them and for me!

Working out, in my opinion, should be a part of everyone’s day.  Whether it be a 20 minute walk in a park, a zumba class, bootcamp, hitting the gym, whatever it is for you that you love.  The point is, our bodies are meant to move so staying stationary at a desk or coming home at the end of the day and sitting on the couch or watching tv, is not what your body actually wants. It IS what our minds “think” we want sometimes, I am not denying that!

If you continue to set up your workout, just like you do your work schedule and have it just become part of your regular routine, trust me, everything will open up for you.

These past few months have been extremely emotional and difficult for me and I am also clear that it would have been ten times worse if I hadn’t gotten up and went to class everyday.  I managed to think clearer, smile more, open to new ideas and find more love than I ever knew was possible just by working out and keeping the happy endorphins flowing.

It wasn’t easy but it was TOTALLY WORTH IT and completely available to you too!

See you this week!

Take Time Out to Enjoy Your Day Everyday!

I completely understand the world of deadlines, late meetings, early mornings and everything in between.  I used to be that person that made no time for myself because I was always like the hamster chasing the wheel….wanting to be better, make more money, be praised more for what I could do.

I reached a point where my health was paying the price for my “better, faster, wealthier, harder working” mentality.

There was a day when the line got drawn in the sand and I knew I was going to start taking small steps to taking care of not only all of my responsibilities but also to take care of myself.

Honestly, no one will take care of you unless you are willing to take care of you. YOU are the first person you wake up to everyday….in fact you are the FIRST person YOU talk to everyday!  You tell yourself how the day is going to go, how you will feel, whether you got enough sleep last night, etc.

Why not tell yourself that you deserve 45-60 minutes a day to either exercise, dance, laugh, meditate, go for a run, take a class, ride a bike, go for a swim?

Many people find that taking 45-60 minutes to themselves each day to work out in some way, allows them to be more productive on whatever task they are embarking on.

I challenge you to take a 30 day challenge!

For 6 weeks, I challenge you to take 60 minutes to work out for 5 days a week and keep a journal of how you are feeling and what accomplishments you make during this time frame.  Then come back here and let me know how you did.  You choose the fitness and time frame for each week 5 days a week.  If you are not sure what to do, contact me and we can put together a wellness plan, otherwise, pick your own and go for it and let us know how you made out!

If there is one thing I have learned in this life, is that life is much too short to wait for “some days” to show up.

Some day IS now!

The Great Weight Debate!

I recently had a woman call me about classes and when I mentioned that one of the classes was a Zumba toning class, she responded that she didn’t want to “tone” anything she just wanted to lose weight.  She said toning was just going to make her “heavy” again.

There is a misconception, in my opinion, about weight loss.  Since we are little we are told that you are over weight, under weight or just the right weight, but really, whose opinion is all of this?  I spoke to you all about a month ago regarding my recent trip to the doctor and she being shocked that I weigh as much as I do. (141lbs and the doctor was convinced her scale must be broke because in her opinion I could weight more than 120lbs, if that)

By Body Mass Index Standards, I am over weight.  Now I know I am not over weight and many of my clients have told me I have lost weight.  Weight is referring to fat, so yes I have. I have burned the fat and toned the muscle that I have.

The toning of muscle is equally as important as burning the fat and when muscle weighs more than fat.  When muscles are toned, they are in their strongest form.  If you weigh more because of your TONED muscles then I say, YOU ARE AWESOME and working hard!

You need to feel good in your own skin. YOU are the only one who lives in it so for all the commercials, magazines, people in your life that tell you that you need to lose weight remind them that toning and inches are way more important than losing weight.  Above all, you need to personally feel comfortable and there is no other person who can tell you how your body feels to you!

Your body is your personal temple, take care of it!

It belongs to YOU!

**For the month of February, if you are a NEW client at our Children’s Palace classes, you can save $15 on a 10 class pass good for 3 months!  If you are looking for a way to work out and have fun while burning fat and toning what you got, fill in the form below and get in communication with us! We are here for YOU!

Don’t Let the Weather Win!

Some people are getting stopped by the recent weather in Toronto.  What I mean by stopped is, I hear that it is a chore in itself to get to and from work….once home from work….they do not want to venture back out into the cold to work out.

Here is the thing and the way I see it:  If you are willing to go to all the trouble to get to work and work for someone else, then set yourself up to win by working on yourself.

What does that mean?

Venturing out to work IS work.  I recommend that you take care of yourself EVEN MORE in these frigid conditions. It is easier to slip and fall with what the sidewalks are like.  Not saying that working out will prevent this from happening but if you are sticking to your fitness routine, your body will be stronger if it were to happen and may heal faster.

When leaving the house in the morning, take what you need WITH YOU to go right from work right to wherever you do your workout. (Even better if it is in the building you work in! If you want that to happen, contact me, our company will COME TO YOU!)  This also includes a snack you may need to refuel after work before the workout and something to sustain you after your workout for the trek home.  Be sure to bring an extra warm layer of clothing for your trip home as well. Once you have worked out you will feel warm but as the warmth and sweat begin to cool off, you can catch a chill if you don’t dress appropriately.

When you get home, after establishing this routine for yourself, you will see that you will not be making yourself wrong or blaming the weather for why you didn’t get your workout in because YOU ACTUALLY DID IT!!!

Take the time and establish your routine, even in this weather, to take care of YOU!  When it becomes a part of your routine, just like knowing you have to get up and go to work each day, then there really are no excuses for why you can’t do it!

Think about it!

Guaranteed Way to Stick to Your Fitness Resolution This Year!

Are you in to making New Years resolutions? If you are, have you ever made a fitness resolution?  Have you stuck with it for an entire year? For many people the answer is yes I have and no I have not stuck to it.

I completely get that, relate to it and I think I may have discovered what a lot of the problem with that is…have you guessed yet?  I have said this many times in the year and strongly believe that referring to your fitness as a “work”out is really a un-workable term to use.  You work enough in life, in my opinion!  You go to work,  you work on your relationships/marriage, everywhere you look…you are working! So why not relate to something as “FUN” ….a “fun”out perhaps? YES! A fun out! What a better way to get fit is there then to find the way you love to have fun as an exercise and do a whole lot of that!

One of my clients had this to say:

“After years of doing very little fitness and every year saying I would do it…THIS YEAR FOR SURE… I realized why I didn’t stick to it was because it was just one more thing to do on my “to do” list.  I never really liked running but it was easy to do except for I got bored and sometimes frustrated trying to come up with new places to run and counting how many kilometres was the distance from here to there to figure out how far I would go each day.  I also didn’t like dealing with the weather if I went running outside and the inside option of running just really had me be bored…  I tried weight training…that didn’t last long…picking up my children after a long day was really enough “weight training” in my day that I actually enjoyed!  I was frustrated trying to find something that I could do just for me that would have me stick to my fitness goals.  When I was younger, I used to love to go hit the clubs with my girlfriends and dance but as we got older, we slowed down going and eventually stopped.  I missed those days.  Then I discovered Zumba! I discovered your classes!  The first few times I came I missed I think every step but you warned me ahead of time that as long as I was moving and grooving to the music, I was doing awesome and the steps would come, and they did!  I am hooked and having fun every week now!    Surprisingly I just learned I am burning a TON of calories but most importantly I am doing something that suits what I love and I don’t experience it as work.  Sometimes I think I will miss a class but then I drag myself there and by the time the first song is a few seconds in I am dancing away smiling, laughing and so happy to feel my body coming alive. I have been learning what it is to have fun again. I am so happy! I never thought about it until I started coming to your Zumba classes but a fun out is totally possible! “ ~S.T. Office Manager

If you experience fitness as a chore or something you “have to do” and are not lit up by it, you may not get the results you desire either.  Zumba is about music. It is about moving, sweating, laughing and making a difference for you and all the people around you!

If you are planning on having a fitness New Years resolution, come try out one of my classes for free.  There is no harm in trying something new! You never know where THIS fitness journey may take you!  With rhythms from around the world, I will transport you on a journey through culture, movement and FUN!

What is Zumba Toning?

As you may or may not know Zumba is a latin cardio fitness dance that has swept the world! With its rhythmic music and easy to follow dance steps, people are getting fit and feeling more like they are at a bar (without the alcohol) having fun dancing with their friends than they are doing a common “workout” one may experience at the gym.

The Live OUT LOUD Movement embraces Zumba in MANY forms. One being Zumba Toning.  I took on becoming a licensed instructor in Zumba Toning because I was seeing the cardio benefit of basic Zumba and wanted to add weights in a safe and effective way for my clients. I have no interest in “bulking” up, however wanting definition in my body, I saw this as a great way to enjoy my favorite music and get toned all over.

Zumba toning incorporates in all the music one will hear in basic Zumba class but the moves are slowed down a bit and the participant will use 1-2.5 lbs (I am not kidding YOU WILL get toned from this!) hand weights.  When following your instructor and doing the motions with the hand weights it is a mind of matter experience.  I am clear the weights are 1-2.5lbs, however, move them as if they were 10 lbs.  If they are 10 lbs, you are not going to flail your arms all over the place, are you? No.

Moving the weights in your hands with intentionality and slowly as you would 10 lbs causes your muscles to work and your body to tone WHILE you are having fun in that dance club environment (without alcohol but LOTS OF WATER!) that makes you want to move!

Many of my clients ask me in the beginning, “where do I get these weights?” You have a few options.  Zumba Fitness sells weights that are 1-2.5lbs and the cost is anywhere from $25-$35. I highly recommend going this route.  By purchasing the weights specific to the fitness you are getting the perfect quality to suit your work out AND they are also morracca’s so while you are toning up you have also just become a part of the band! YA!

Another option you can do, go to your local walmart, target, Canadian tire or any fitness place and find weights that are no more than 1-2.5lbs (I cannot stress the weight enough! DO NOT bring 5 lbs weights to class! You will not be able to lift your arms the next day or worse, will injure yourself!), you can have dumb bell style or ones you can put on your wrists.  Your third option is two water bottles. Make sure that neither of these water bottles will be used in keeping you hydrated or you will have just unbalanced your weights when you get thirsty!

This really is a FUN way to continue on your fitness journey and add in some toning along with your cardio! Let’s work those summer bodies!

Hope to see you soon! ~ Tammy, Your Friendly Neighborhood Zumba Instructor!

Benefits of Physical Fitness: Live Longer and Happier

I know the term ‘working out’ just turns most of you off and just switch the ‘no’ button on. But if you really think of it, you’re working out every day.

When you bring that load of dirty laundry to the laundry room, when you’re picking up that frozen meat for tonight’s dinner, even picking up that remote control. I know, ‘how is that “working out”? Well it’s a very [very] minimal work out; you’re making your body move, that’s how it’s a work out. But if you incorporate more activities you’ll see that it becomes an everyday routine.

Studies show that when active, the body releases endorphin’s which make you feel good and better-just like chocolate; and you’ll lengthen your life span from 5-15 years. I know I’m getting all sciency on you but it’s true. And!!! When you’re active and busy you won’t want to munch- out on everything you see, you’ll also be more willing to do more stuff throughout your day.
