What Is Your View of You?

Recently I did an assignment where I was asked to ask 5 people I know well and 5 people I don’t know so well what they think my most valuable skills, abilities and unique traits are.

When I saw this exercise, I had a moment of being worried to ask. Do I really want to know what others think of me?  Will I like or not like their answers? How quick will they respond or do they have to think about it?

All this personal judging and assessing of myself reared its ugly head and I began to go down a bit of a tunnel.  Before I took the full turn into the tunnel of my brain where there is no coming back, I quickly typed up the text and sent it out to 10 people and exhaled as the question that was consuming my thoughts fired its way through cyberspace into the hands of 10 unknowing individuals.

Within minutes my phone began to ‘ding’ with incoming messages.  As I opened the texts I was flooded with emotions.  My eyes could not believe what I was reading. ‘optimistic, energetic, incredible listener, compassionate, exceptional leader, integral, extreme social intelligence, genuine as fuck, willingness to learn & unlearn to support communities, ability to always find the silver lining, writer, determination & stand, approachable’ & the list went on….

All the things I “wished” I could be were now before me in the eyes of others as to who I am…..I suddenly had nowhere to get to.  I could now see I AM these things I always “wished” I could be.

The text also had a few ask… “Are you applying for a job? I know a company that would love to have you!” Which made me giggle a little with flattery.  It also opened a communication of others asking this question back to me about them.  It became extremely empowering for everyone!

I see now that I have been relating to myself as small, not able to make a BIG difference…only a little blip on a screen and I had so much more work to do to be the person I always wanted to be.

But now, Here I am.

I share this as I do not feel that I am alone in my judgement or assessment of ones Self.  I do believe that the hardest person on our Self is typically our own Self! I was blinded by my own view and until asking others, unclear that there was any other view out there other than the small one I had created for me.

Doing this assignment awakened me to what I have actually been creating in the world and has given me an opportunity to move forward with all my goals knowing that I am who I always hoped I could be for myself and others.

I personally do not want to live my life alone. If I am to succeed, I want others to come with and know that I am here for them and we can make this world a better place TOGETHER.  The truth is I actually get that this dream of mine is completely possible and I have an incredible group of people around me that we are all cheering each other on to win.

I have pivoted on one foot out of the tunnel and back into the light to breathe new air into my lungs. Now it is time to take on life with rejuvenated passion and purpose knowing that I am bigger than my own thoughts.

If you are feeling stuck in a negative thought about yourself, I invite you to reach out to your community and be brave to ask this question. I truly believe you will learn a lot about who you REALLY are beyond the thoughts you THINK you are.

Self-care Comes FIRST

Seriously, this gets missed A LOT by MANY people!

Speaking from my own experience, I have a tendency to put everyone in my life’s needs before my own & by the end of the day, I am spent with no energy to give back to myself.

Recently, I have been switching it up.

Checking in with myself each MORNING & ensuring what I need from myself for the day, I get.

What this has shown me is that I am still able to be there & support others like I always did (if not even better now) & all my own personal needs are taken care of & I do not waiver from ensuring they are in a timely manner everyday!

So do what you need to do to take care of yourself FIRST & then watch how much easier it is to be there for others!

Here We Go 2019!

There is something about starting a New Year that allows for all of what didn’t work the year before to be put behind me.

I begin to think about what it is that I want to accomplish in the New Year and looking at what it will take to do so.

I have made New Year’s resolutions before but quickly they fell out of existence…mainly because they were “great ideas” but I failed to put a plan of action to achieve them in place.

Now, in the first week of the New Year, I fill my calendar with actions. Actions that will propel what I want to accomplish and I do it in 3 month increments. I set out my schedule of what I know I already have to do. ie. Work, homework, accounting, etc. and then I add in my personal workouts (I schedule my fitness like I do work), meetings, phone calls, etc.

Yes. I teach fitness classes, however, I also do some personal fitness goals just for me as well as a mind, body, spirit regime of reading, meditating and more. Honestly, if I do not schedule this stuff in, it doesn’t happen and I had to get really straight with myself about that.

Left to my own devices, I could binge on Netflix or find 1000 other things to do before taking care of me. Yup. I am just as guilty as the next person!

Action plans create just that….ACTION!

Imagine yourself 3 months out from where you currently are and walk back from that point to what you had to do to get there and write it all down. Use a google calendar! Put a calendar app on your phone, or if you like to go ‘old school’ write it on a piece of paper and go to work!

Remember, do not beat yourself up if you miss an action. Just put it back in existence and look towards that future you are creating.

Be kind to yourself and be in action.

Make 2019 your BEST YEAR YET!

I Am Under Construction…It Is A GREAT Thing!

I have discovered that everything in life, jobs, relationships, being alive, is always evolving and if I stay “static” or not moving in one area then everything eventually seems like it gets “stuck”. It becomes a force that is very hard to move forward.

The beginning of 2018 brought upon many incidents/accidents that have had me begin to re-evaluate much of what I have been working on.  Not like a problem, only that knowing when many challenges show up, sometimes it is like the universe’s way of saying “HELLO TAMMY!! Are you listening?”

The most prominent that started my year were 2 car accidents less than 2 month’s apart. Both times I was rear-ended and ended up with whiplash and concussions. The second time I was hit, my car that I just purchased less than 6 month’s prior to the accidents, it didn’t make it.

Being that I work primarily in the fitness industry this was very hard physically to see some of the limitations I was having after both accidents.  I had headaches regularly, my body was very sore constantly.  I would easily forget things I had just done or said in the first few weeks following these accidents. It was terribly frustrating at the time.

Thankfully, I know my body well and went directly to my chiropractor and medical doctor right after the accidents. I immediately got the support I needed and have bounced back extremely quickly so I can keep working doing what I love.

That being said, the accidents also opened something up for me. I realized I really had no back up plan if something were to happen that I didn’t “bounce back” again if something else were to happen. The question to myself was “If I am not able to dance anymore, then what?”

I realized this year that my passion is and always will be to support others in discovering what lights them up. Supporting others in finding the relationships they are looking for. Supporting people of all abilities to move and find their groove! Supporting others in making their dreams reality, whether it be fitness goals, relationships, financial, building businesses, creating extraordinary events, and so much more.

The company I have built, the Live OUT LOUD Movement, is so much more than just a fitness program based primarily in Zumba Fitness.

The Live OUT LOUD Movement is a LIFE MOVEMENT.

A place to take all that seems like heavy weights on our shoulders and discover the silver lining within them all to produce extraordinary results in the face of no agreement in life.

I truly believe that everything happens in our lives for a reason. Even all the “bad stuff” that I wish never happened. I see it as it had to happen to show me something that I couldn’t see was available before. In the moment, it never “feels” that way, however the true gift of this MOVEMENT is the opportunity to look more in-depth at what is happening and discover what I/we can’t see right away.  Discovering the knowledge that is hidden deep within what ails us to creating a strong and vibrant life that impacts ourselves and others by what is discovered!

I am in the process of rebuilding new aspects to the Live OUT LOUD Movement and new offerings over the next few months to really dive deep into what is possible through this company to help people in a unique way.

I hope you stick around to see what is next and how it all plays out. I will always continue to dance for as long as my body will let me, you can bet money on that and now is the time for me to take what I have built thus far and expand it far beyond where it is today!

EXCITING TIMES!

I'm under construction and loving it

The Importance of Self Love…

I have been thinking a lot lately about how I take care of myself and questioning whether or not I really take the time to check in within myself and ask “how am I doing?”

Many of us go about our day ensuring that everyone around us has what “they” need and often times forget to check in and make sure we are taken care of.

Can anyone relate?

Only recently did I notice how not checking in with myself left me with this feeling of being like a hamster on a wheel running like mad to get things done and actually not getting anywhere.  Hamsters actually enjoy this activity, however, I have discovered for sure that I am NOT a hamster and that IS good news!

Here is what I discovered when I took the time to really look….what I needed was personal time to write.

I bet you thought I was going to say dance…Actually that would be second but WRITING…writing comes FIRST!

Writing is something that has always given me great pleasure.

For me, it is not something that I need to share with anyone and that being said, sometimes I choose to share my writing….but for the purpose of taking care of me, I just need time to write at least once a day.

Sometimes I know what I want to write about and sometimes it becomes what I refer to as a “mind dump”….just let it all out and then I can breathe again.

It is important to me that others understand that as successful as you may think I am, I literally am no different from anyone else. I forget to take care of myself sometimes.  I have thoughts that do not empower me all the time. Sometimes I really do not want to work out.

What I know though is that when I honor myself by taking time to write, bring back the positive thoughts and work out whether I “want to” or not, I always always always feel better and am able to support those around that I  love to the fullest!

It is important to discover at least one thing that you can do to take care of your SELF that will light you up and light your soul on fire!  Whatever it is for you, love it, give yourself the time to do it NO MATTER HOW BUSY YOU THINK YOU ARE and know that YOU are the most important person in your life.

Without YOU, there is NO amazing life!

YOU COME FIRST and all else FALLS INTO PLACE!

Zumba is so much fun!

If you are someone who goes to the gym and counts the minutes until your workout is over…it may be time for you to try something different.

I was there once too…

I used to go to the gym and get on a treadmill and within 4 minutes (and I may be stretching that a little to make it seem like I really gave it all I had to make it to 5 minutes…) all I could think of was how long I had to keep doing this to reach the end.

Sound familiar?

Don’t get me wrong.  The gym can be GREAT! Some people really love it and I encourage my clients to switch it up and go if it inspires them. Trying different things can keep you from plateauing in your workouts.

When I found Zumba, my first reaction to the video I watched was “This is AMAZING!! I wanna do this!”

When I found my first class and went my first reaction was (tons of laughter from me) and “What the heck am I doing? I must look like a clown right now!”

The difference between yoga classes and Zumba classes (besides the obvious differences) is this…when you laugh and can’t stop in Zumba..it is fun and contagious….when you laugh and can’t stop in yoga…they kick you out…

I learned that one on my own too

(hence why I also teach Laughter Yoga…Kinda more my style)

After taking a few Zumba classes (started out with one a week), I began to know the moves a little more and fell in love with music and how FAST the class went.  I felt like I just stepped into class and suddenly we were at the cooldown.

BAM!

Just like that I was sweaty, relaxed and DONE my workout!! Felt so good!!

Each week came with more moves, new rhythms and then this class called Zumba Toning started and class was different but still as much fun as regular Zumba.  Then came Zumba Senato!!

What??!! All this from the Zumba Family??

The great part was that this class gave me a new way to continue doing what I loved and a new way to work my muscles so I didn’t plateau in my workouts.

WIN WIN AGAIN!!! THANK YOU ZUMBA FITNESS!

Fast forward to 10 years now…2 years as a student and coming up 8 years teaching.

People often as me “Is Zumba just a fad?”

Honestly, I don’t know…I have been doing it for a decade now and I am not bored and have no interest in quitting. I love it. It is passion. It is play. It is sweaty fun with an AMAZING community of people! I cannot imagine going back to anything else.

I think there are quite a few people out there, just like me, that a decade has passed and we are all wondering where the time went because it is just that AWESOME and easy to get hooked doing it!

Hope you come have some laughs, sweat and groove moves with us all soon! It is NEVER too late to start!

Much love,

Tammy (Your friendly neighborhood Zumba Instructor)shake it till you make it-1

January 2018 is Here!

If you are a “New Year’s Resolution” person you may be well on your way to your new goal.  If you are a “New Year to start something New person” you may still be looking for that new “thing” to try out and see where it goes!

Personally, I am more the second person than the first.  It really doesn’t matter though which person you are or if you take on neither of these.  Often times we stress ourselves out at this time of year thinking that if we don’t have that “New Shiny Goal” in place than we have already failed for the year before we can succeed, or if we take something on and in the first week something happens and we can no longer commit to it that the whole year is now blown…

Hogwash! (as my mom would say!)

A New Year only holds the meaning YOU/I attach to it. We can actually start and stop goals at anytime and it means nothing about who we are or how the rest of the year will go if we do.

Mindset is everything in the game of life, in my opinion. The moment I make myself wrong or something wrong that is going on around me is the moment that I have gone down the rabbit hole and will spend the next week/month/year trying to dig myself out of it.

Give yourself the freedom to explore this January. To explore what it is that lights you up and when you discover it….DO MORE OF THAT! (Whatever it is)

Do not allow yourself to dive deep into the rabbit hole of destruction that wrecks your entire year before it is started. Make 2018 the year of exploration and see what opens up!

Just a suggestion to take on as we move forward this month.

Happy vibes coming your way!

Much love and success to this new year for you in 2018!

Tammy

Failing is Part of Life….Your Reaction is Yours…

Recently I put myself out there for something that I could have sworn would be a perfect fit for who I am and what I am up to. I told myself that I wasn’t attached at all to how it turned out and if it was meant to be, it would work out. What really happened was when it didn’t work out, I realized how attached I really was and how bummed out I was that it didn’t work out.

It took me some time and reflection to see that it was okay that it didn’t work out and there were other opportunities that will present themselves and most importantly, I am okay and the decision that was made was not personal to who I am, rather it was the perfect decision for the people who presented the opportunity.

The point is, being sad or discouraged can be a perfectly normal reaction to what’s going on. Staying sad or discouraged is really up to each of us. I choose not to stay in that place for any longer than a day…or so…or less if I can wrap my head back into the game. I know that I am worth it and will have many opportunities show up in life and it is up to me to seek them out, discover and go for it, no matter what.

Failing is just part of the game of life. Stay real my friends!
