10 Years TODAY as a Zumba Fitness Instructor!

10 years ago today, I birthed a new career path as a Zumba Fitness Instructor. Who knew what that was going to look like!
I orginally saw it as a part-time gig…Since then, I have taught hundred’s of young people & teens across the GTA from fitness classes, to dance-a-thons, to mental health weeks, to warm ups at large group fitness days.
I have hosted my own classes in the community, taught in gyms, traveled to Jamaica to teach, been in a commercial (not sure it ever aired..lol), taught people from every walk of life & age group.
I have worked with people of all abilities from wheelchairs, to Down’s, to many mental & physical differences. We have danced with weights, in the water, from a chair & more. To now ONLINE classes & connecting the world with dance! I have met & made some of the BEST friendships with incredible woman & men along the way & continue to. We have laughed, sweat, moved & grooved & let self expression reign for a decade!
This moment opened the doors to my LOVE of making a difference for people. This moment opened the door to being trained in Laughter Yoga, Dance for Parkinson’s, Zumba Toning, Zumba Sentao, Aqua Zumba, Zumba Kids & kids Jr., Zumba Core, Stretch classes & more.
I am forever grateful & thankful for the past decade of Love, Laughter, Self Expression & being surrounded by beautiful people along this journey!
I cannot wait to see what the next decade has in store & I am grateful to have the opportunity to share it all with YOU!

September is HERE!

I cannot believe how fast summer flew by this year!

I want to wish all the young people a HAPPY DAY ONE to your new school year!

To all you parents who are ready to get back into routine, I remind you that Zumba & a Pint is a GREAT routine! Whether you have the pint or a soda after class is up to you but the brewery has a mid week cool vibe going on that will carry you all the way through to your weekend!

Our NEW Wednesday Home for Zumba!

I am excited to share with you after 2 amazing events at High Park Brewery (839 Runnymede Road), we have found our new Wednesday night 6:45pm Zumba basics class spot!

This space is INCREDIBLE & FUN! AND these are Zumba & a Pint nights! Come for the dancing, stay for a cold brew of Toronto’s finest beer if you like!

$20 gets you a one hour Zumba class & a pint of beer or soft drink.

We will be back at High Park Brewery Wednesday August 14th & moving forward, every Wednesday!

WOOHOO!!!

Summer is Commmminnnngggg!!!!

Okay…I may be a little premature in saying this, however, at some point it must show up!

Summer always does!

That being said, why not get a jump-start on feeling great inside and out by coming out to “shake what your momma gave ya!” at a local zumba class!

No need to get a gym membership or feel intimidated by equipment and weightlifters.  The only thing you need to bring is water and maybe a towel to wipe down after class because one thing I 100% promise…WE GONNA SWEAT!

The location is fun and community oriented, the ladies are awesome and welcoming. We do not play games like in high school, we all just come out for a good time, to get lost in the music, have some laughs and walk away feeling awesome.

If that sounds good to you and you want to come join us, please do!

No Zumba Wednesday March 21, 2018

Hi Ladies,

This is a friendly reminder that there is no zumba class at 6:45 pm this week.

It is kind of for a pretty cool reason and I want to share with you! My best friend all the way back from Grade 5 (and let’s pretend I just graduated from high school like a year ago…lol) has flown out to Toronto from Saskatchewan and we are getting together to catch up AND to go to the P!ink concert! (Ok…so it’s more like a 15+ year since we have seen each other reunion…so exciting!!)

That is a pretty sweet, once in a lifetime kind of night! 🙂

Thank you so much to all of you that I have already spoke to about this cancellation and your understanding.  Please be sure to dance at home this Wednesday and if you can, come out on Thursday at 7:00pm for Zumba Core fun!!

All other classes are on except this Wednesday.

Zumba is so much fun!

If you are someone who goes to the gym and counts the minutes until your workout is over…it may be time for you to try something different.

I was there once too…

I used to go to the gym and get on a treadmill and within 4 minutes (and I may be stretching that a little to make it seem like I really gave it all I had to make it to 5 minutes…) all I could think of was how long I had to keep doing this to reach the end.

Sound familiar?

Don’t get me wrong.  The gym can be GREAT! Some people really love it and I encourage my clients to switch it up and go if it inspires them. Trying different things can keep you from plateauing in your workouts.

When I found Zumba, my first reaction to the video I watched was “This is AMAZING!! I wanna do this!”

When I found my first class and went my first reaction was (tons of laughter from me) and “What the heck am I doing? I must look like a clown right now!”

The difference between yoga classes and Zumba classes (besides the obvious differences) is this…when you laugh and can’t stop in Zumba..it is fun and contagious….when you laugh and can’t stop in yoga…they kick you out…

I learned that one on my own too

(hence why I also teach Laughter Yoga…Kinda more my style)

After taking a few Zumba classes (started out with one a week), I began to know the moves a little more and fell in love with music and how FAST the class went.  I felt like I just stepped into class and suddenly we were at the cooldown.

BAM!

Just like that I was sweaty, relaxed and DONE my workout!! Felt so good!!

Each week came with more moves, new rhythms and then this class called Zumba Toning started and class was different but still as much fun as regular Zumba.  Then came Zumba Senato!!

What??!! All this from the Zumba Family??

The great part was that this class gave me a new way to continue doing what I loved and a new way to work my muscles so I didn’t plateau in my workouts.

WIN WIN AGAIN!!! THANK YOU ZUMBA FITNESS!

Fast forward to 10 years now…2 years as a student and coming up 8 years teaching.

People often as me “Is Zumba just a fad?”

Honestly, I don’t know…I have been doing it for a decade now and I am not bored and have no interest in quitting. I love it. It is passion. It is play. It is sweaty fun with an AMAZING community of people! I cannot imagine going back to anything else.

I think there are quite a few people out there, just like me, that a decade has passed and we are all wondering where the time went because it is just that AWESOME and easy to get hooked doing it!

Hope you come have some laughs, sweat and groove moves with us all soon! It is NEVER too late to start!

Dance is More Than Just Fitness…

I cannot even tell you the amount of times that I have used dancing as a way to get clear on my thoughts, feelings and emotions.

When I am feeling “stuck” in life, I find that the way I am able to move through anything that I come up against is to crank up the music and DANCE, whether it be in a class or on my own in my living room…shifting the energy through movement has me become clear and focused and able to take on issues in my life that before I was literally paralyzed by.

Whether you can dance well or not is not even important. Movement is ALL that is important.

Shift your body and shift your mind.

All classes are ON this week if you wanna come shift some energy!

Yes! We are open our regular class times and will not be effected by the holiday!  Come join us TONIGHT (Thursday) for Zumba Toning/Core at 7pm and TOMORROW (Friday) for another round of Zumba Toning/Core at 9:30am!

Benefits of Movement

Are You Looking to “Lose Weight?”

Our language really does create our world.  The intention to lose weight is great but then that really does give an opening for you to find it again.

When you are out to transform your body, it is important to not just look at “weight”. Look at your language and inches! It can be very discouraging if all you are doing is stepping on a scale once a week.  When you are working out and toning your body, you are building muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat.  It is most important to track your inches.  Inches around your shoulders, chest, waist, hips and thighs will give you a better picture of how you are doing along your fitness journey.

At the LOL Movement classes, if you wish to be measured and be tracked with your inch by inch look at what you are up to in your fitness goals, we can and will provide this for you!

In the meantime, if you are talking about “losing” weight, we suggest you just get rid of it and not find it again! 😉
